Significance

1,4-Diketones are obtained in good yields from the addition of organozinc reagents to unsaturated carbonyls in the presence of carbon monoxide. Various substituted cyclic and acyclic ketones as well as unsaturated aldehydes are suitable substrates for this reaction.
