Significance
The control of weak interactions to order molecules is significantly important in material sciences, because the morphologies of molecules strongly affect their physical properties. Herein, the synthesis of bis(pentafluorobenzyl)-[60]fullerene through benzylation of a dianion of fullerene is communicated. The fullerene shows unique aggregation-deaggregation behavior based on π-π interaction between pentafluorophenyl and fullerene moieties. Furthermore, photovoltaic device fabricated, using the fullerene as an acceptor, exhibits a power conversion efficiency of 1.51%.
