Significance
Following their previous work, the authors apply an aluminum(salalen) complex to the oxidation of cyclic dithioacetals and high levels of diastereo-and enantioselectivity are achieved. Overoxidation has hindered the development of asymmetric oxidation of dithioacetals, but here, the oxidation is completely controlled to give either monoxides or dioxides depending on the equivalents of hydrogen peroxide.
