Significance

Brassard’s diene has been under­utilized in catalytic hetero-Diels-Alder (HDA) reactions of aldehydes. In this report, the authors describe the HDA reaction of Brassard-type dienes with aliphatic aldehydes which yields β-methoxy-γ-methyl-α,β-unsaturated-δ-lactones in high dia­stereo- and enantioselectivities.
