Significance
(-)-Neplanocin A is an antiviral carbocyclic nucleoside isolated from Ampullariella regularis. It is thought to act by inhibition of S-adenosylhomocystine. The synthesis is noteworthy for its use of a zirconocene-mediated ring contraction in the key step.
