Significance

The aldol reaction is a powerful transformation in organic chemistry. Here, the authors report the C 2-symmetric bis(prolinamide) catalyst 1 for the enantioselective direct aldol reaction. With 10 mol% of the catalyst good yields (52-80%) and enantioselectivities (82-98%) were obtained for different aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes.
