Significance

Enzymatic kinetic resolution remains the method of choice for generation of enantiopure starting materials for the elaboration to other compounds. This represents an efficient method for generating enantiomerically pure diacetylated diols. This novel enzyme-metal-catalyst combination efficiently transforms optically inactive mixtures to optically pure products in high yields.
