Significance
Most monomers can only be efficiently polymerized to give a single polymer structure. These preferences are often conserved regardless of the polymerization method. For example an ionic or radical polymerization can often give the same polymer structure. This contribution describes a cyclic monomer that can be polymerized by radical or cationic methods to give two completely different polymer architectures.
