Significance
In prior work, the authors have demonstrated that allene-aldehyde reductive coupling could be effected under transfer hydrogenation conditions using isopropanol as a terminal reductant (J. Am. Chem. Soc . 2008, 129, 15134). Based on these findings, the authors report carbonyl allylation reactions with cyclohexadiene under similar transfer hydrogenation conditions. Either alcohols or aldehydes could be utilized as coupling partners with cyclohexadiene to give corresponding homoallylic alcohols in high regio- and diastereoselectivities.
