Significance

The cortistatins are structurally ­rearranged steroidal marine alkaloids, which display potency in an anti-angiogenic model, with cortistatin A being the most functionalized and potent. This synthesis combines aspects of previous syntheses to provide rapid access to four of the cortistatin family from a common intermediate L.
