Significance
(-)-Conophylline was isolated from Tabernaemontana divaricata in 1992 and shows promising anticancer activity. This compound may become a lead for novel cancer chemotherapy drugs and in the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 1 through regeneration therapy. This work re-presents the first total synthesis of this compound.
