Significance
In 2003, Reetz and Feringa found independently that the use of binary mixtures of chiral monodentate P-ligands sometimes gave higher selectivities than the corresponding single ligands in several transition-metal-catalyzed reactions (see Review below). In these reactions, however, three active catalytic species (two homocomplexes, one heterocomplex) are potentially active. To shift the equilibrium towards the heterocomplex, the present study involves the design of ligands containing complementary acidic and basic sites.
