Significance

A novel efficient method for the formation of C-B bonds is reported. This method is based on a metal-free N-heterocyclic carbene catalyzed conjugate addition of bis(pinacolato)diboron to cyclic and acyclic α,β-unsaturated carbonyls, including lactones, esters, and ketones.
