Significance
Aspercyclide B is an Aspergillus metabolite that interferes with the interaction of immunoglobin E antibodies with its human high-affinity receptor and hence is a potential treatment for allergic disorders. The focal step of the synthesis is a high-yielding, diastereoselective intramolecular Nozaki-Hiyama-Kishi reaction (K → L).
