Significance
Cortistatins A and J display significant antiangiogenic activity. Several potent water soluble analogues were synthesized that may be suitable to treat ocular and macular degeneration and related angiogenesis-dependent afflictions. The analogue shown in the scheme exceeds the antiangiogenic potency of cortistatin A in vitro.
