Significance
Abyssomicin C is a structurally interesting antibiotic that displays activity against methicillin- and vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Nicolaou and Harrison have developed a Lewis acid templated Diels-Alder reaction (C → F) en route to the oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octane core.
