Significance
A copolymer of N-isopropylacrylamide and a chiral pseudo-18-crown-6-ether (S,S)-3 have been synthesized by AIBN-initiated radical polymerization. The polymer exhibits temperature-dependent phase transitions accompanied by sharp non-linear transmittance change upon complexation with chiral ammonium salts. The ratio of the apparent binding constants (KR/KS) varies from 16±1 for NEA˙HCl to 180±10 for PEA˙HCl in aqueous solutions.
