Significance
FR901464 is a Pseudomonas metabolite that induces G1 and G2/M phase arrest in the cell cycle and hence displays a potent antitumor effect. The present synthesis is based on the chiral pool with all the key building blocks coming from d-glucose, l-threonine, and ethyl (S)-lactate.
